U.O.G.A. CODE OF ETHICS
THE FOLLOWING LIST OF ETHICAL VALUES ARE THOSE WHICH EACH OUTFITTER OR GUIDE SHOULD ASPIRE TO. WE ALL HAVE DIFFICULT DAYS HUNTING, BUT AS LONG AS WE ARE STRIVING TO DO BETTER, BOTH THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE INDUSTRY IMPROVES.

Professional Competence and Public Service
The outfitter or guide shall apply their knowledge, skills, and experience for the benefit of their clients, the profession, and the general public. They shall actively promote public understanding and appreciation of the outfitting and guiding profession.

Ethical Advertising and Representation
Advertising shall be conducted in a respectful and factual manner, clearly stating the services offered, associated costs, and the scope of the outfitter’s or guide’s capabilities.

Safe and Sanitary Operations
When responsible for providing equipment, such as ATV/UTVs, stock, or gear, the outfitter or guide shall ensure it is safely maintained and suited to its intended purpose. Stock animals must be properly conditioned for field use. Sanitary facilities shall be adequate for the setting, and all food served must be clean and wholesome, subject only to the limitations imposed by remote or primitive environments.

Licensing and Legal Compliance
The outfitter or guide must be licensed and bonded in accordance with the laws of the State of Utah and must fully comply with all applicable federal and state regulations governing the profession.

Client Loyalty and Professional Duty
The outfitter or guide shall remain loyal to their client or employer and perform all duties with integrity, diligence, and professionalism.

Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing
The outfitter or guide shall support professional development by mentoring others, exchanging ideas and experiences, and participating in initiatives that ensure the profession’s longevity.

Contractual and Ethical Responsibility
The outfitter or guide shall fulfill all contractual obligations to the best of their ability while safeguarding the rights of guests and upholding the principles of good sportsmanship.

Environmental Best Practices
The outfitter or guide shall adhere to minimum-impact camping principles and collaborate with peers and regulatory agencies to develop and implement practices that protect the lands and waters used in the course of their work.

Emergency Preparedness and First Aid
The outfitter or guide should be trained in first aid and emergency response appropriate to remote and wilderness settings. Safety protocols must be established and communicated to all clients and staff.

Client Education and Ethics
Guides should actively educate clients on ethical hunting practices, conservation principles, and respect for wildlife and habitat, fostering a greater sense of responsibility and stewardship.

Cultural and Indigenous Respect
Outfitters and guides should respect local cultural practices and indigenous land rights. They should seek to build positive relationships with local communities and act in a manner that honors cultural heritage.

Data and Confidentiality
The outfitter or guide should maintain the confidentiality of client information and avoid sharing sensitive data without consent, particularly in relation to private land access or proprietary business practices.
